Our Shoebox Group

I had a request about exactly how our Shoebox group works. (If I leave anything out or give wrong direction, Susan will correct me.) My dear friend Susan is the one that started the group, and she’s been in quite a variety of groups and she’s the one who makes sure everything is in the works all year.

After we sign up for the Shoebox Swap, Susan sends us a form to fill out, to help us know a little about each other. It’s comprised of questions starting with name, and goes on with things like what kind of fabric you like, consisting of two colors or themes. Say black and white, or fall colors and spring ones, or Christmas or maybe Sunflowers, etc.

You buy two FQ’s each month, one of each color or theme, then by the end of the year you’ll have 12 of each color, a total of 24 FQ’s. The fabric must be good quality quilting fabric.

Edi asked for Civil War:

Norece asked for light and dark novelty fabrics:

Other questions include:

What type of fabric do you like, Michael Miller, etc. or your favorite designer

Any particular dislikes:

Any favorite authors, music, colors etc.

Favorite quilt block:

One thing you really dislike:

Select two out of the following group. Then your partner can choose one of those to make. Pincushion, Christmas ornament, mug rug/snack mat, or needlebook (Is there a particular theme or season or color you’d prefer?)

Norece received these two things, though only one was required. She had said, “Surprise me!”

Paper on pincushion reads: A fat quarter is not a body part.

Chocolate: dark, milk chocolate, white or none?

Favorite drinks: Coffee, tea, herbal tea or other?

Modern or traditional quilting or both?

Favorite fabric designers or likes: Amy Butler,Tula pink kona solids etc.

Other crafts you enjoy?

Any food or scent allergies?

Other things your Swap partner should know about you:

We collect all year, tease a little on the list, report in monthly about how it’s going, etc. If we have a question, we send it to Susan and she finds out and sends back an answer.

Then, between Thanksgiving and Dec. 7, we mail our boxes. It’s fun to see them as people open them. We post pictures. Some people wait until Christmas Day and some of us rip right into them. Our chocolate is a memory by then. LOL

The only requirements we have are the 24 FQs in the requested categories, the hand made gift, and chocolate, unless otherwise requesting none. All of us toss in other fun things, like embroidery scissors or little tins or quilt items – nothing expensive.

Edi got these extras:

The original idea came from a quilter in a Phoenix, AZ, quilt store. Her guild had done it within the guild. Susan thought it would be a great substitute for Secret Sister programs and this was the 16th year some of us have done it. It was the first year for others. Susan usually invites a few people she knows, usually through blogging, to take the place of those who drop out and there are 12-15 people each year.

Great Week!

It’s been a fair to middlin’ week. My pain level has decreased for the most, provided I don’t try do something stupid. (Like thinking I can reach up in the cabinet get something. (Not good, not good at all lol) Aside from that, I’ve increased my exercise and traction time. So I’m gettin’ there:)

I belong to a group of ladies that do a Shoebox Swap once a year. We fill out a form to share our likes and dislikes, like two colors of fabric you like, a little of everything. At the end of the year you end up with 24 FQ’s of you
Partners favorite colors. Anyway, I got my Shoebox the other day and wow! So many goodies! 😁 I’m going to try and post some pic’s now, so keep your fingers crossed.

These are the goodies in my box! I left out the candle and something else. ( it’s getting late for me, so my brain has all ready begun to shut down. Lolol

Quilts for the Nursery at Church

Well, I’m at work so I can’t pull up any pictures to post but I can do that when I get home later.  I’m making  much needed quilts for the nursery here at church.  I’ve got about 14 or more ready to quilt and just finished the second one.  So hopefully this week end I’ll be able to quilt several and then I can sit back and stitch the binding on when I’m here.  (In between work that is.)  When I get home today I’ll try to remember to take some pictures, thinking of it and doing it are two different things.  I think about it here but when I get home I tend to forget, so I just wrote myself a little note.

I’m also on a Yahoo group that has been making hearts to swap.  What we do is, each month everyone makes one heart and then there is a name drawn to see who gets them that month.    Of course then that name is taken out of the drawing and she draws the next winner.  This month Rose Anne won the hearts so she will pick next months winner.  Pretty cool huh?  We’re going to do a second round of it, so we’ll all have enough to make a wall hanging or something we’d like to do with them.

Ok, it’s back to work, so I’ve written myself a note to take pictures when I get home.

Have a great day and a great week end!
