Blogging/Sewing/Organize/Bake Etc

I tend to be an all or nothing individual, and although I never make New Years resolutions, I have set a few goals for myself. My first short term ( to turn into long term ) goal is, to use the time when I get up in the A.M. doing my blogging and emails. Get soooo terribly far behind in my blogging, to read it is erratic. Lol my mails?? I can’t tell you how far behind I am in responding. So my goal is while I have my coffee in the morning and just watching the news, I can play on the computer as well. Lol Oh yes, I can also use that time to get in some sewing for the groups I’m in. 🦄

Organize around here. Arrrrrrrgh, the hardest thing to do. We don’t have much storage space, so organizing is difficult. I am , at this point making some desiccant bags for containers I can put in the garage. I have one cabinet with most of my kitchen appliances in it. ( each one is in a plastic bag to protect them, from dust, etc) I have a second one that is narrower, but taller and really need to add some shelves in it. Those work out real well. 🐼

I have my fabric in Sterilite containers, as well as on racks in the bedroom. You see, one of the problems is I have my short arm, with a ten foot table in one spare bedroom, with racks filled with fabric. I use half the closet for fabric and the other half for clothes. Thats one spare bedroom. The second spare bedroom is my sewing room. I have shelves along two walls, one with fabric in containers on two large racks( that’s two racks) The third rack is filled with Freeze dried foods, in #10 cans. That’s part of my food storage. The third wall has boxes stored all along it. Now the last wall has three of the storage containers with drawers (can’t remember what they’re called. Lol). Guess where my sewing machine is?? Behind the loveseat in the living room . Lolol That’s a good thing tho because I like sewing out here while hubby watches tv. 🐡

Last but not least, I like to bake, and need to get into a routine with that as well. One day a week is a good amount of time to spend on this. I bake for us, as well as my daughter and grandkids. Also large quantities of spaghetti sauce etc. The one thing I need time for, and should probably work it into my baking day, is Meals In A Jar. Or I should say Mylar bags mostly now. ( they won’t break if I forget to put a sock around them if we have an earthquake.🐹

Anybody have any suggestions? 🐰🐰🐰 I welcome them.

Our Shoebox Group

I had a request about exactly how our Shoebox group works. (If I leave anything out or give wrong direction, Susan will correct me.) My dear friend Susan is the one that started the group, and she’s been in quite a variety of groups and she’s the one who makes sure everything is in the works all year.

After we sign up for the Shoebox Swap, Susan sends us a form to fill out, to help us know a little about each other. It’s comprised of questions starting with name, and goes on with things like what kind of fabric you like, consisting of two colors or themes. Say black and white, or fall colors and spring ones, or Christmas or maybe Sunflowers, etc.

You buy two FQ’s each month, one of each color or theme, then by the end of the year you’ll have 12 of each color, a total of 24 FQ’s. The fabric must be good quality quilting fabric.

Edi asked for Civil War:

Norece asked for light and dark novelty fabrics:

Other questions include:

What type of fabric do you like, Michael Miller, etc. or your favorite designer

Any particular dislikes:

Any favorite authors, music, colors etc.

Favorite quilt block:

One thing you really dislike:

Select two out of the following group. Then your partner can choose one of those to make. Pincushion, Christmas ornament, mug rug/snack mat, or needlebook (Is there a particular theme or season or color you’d prefer?)

Norece received these two things, though only one was required. She had said, “Surprise me!”

Paper on pincushion reads: A fat quarter is not a body part.

Chocolate: dark, milk chocolate, white or none?

Favorite drinks: Coffee, tea, herbal tea or other?

Modern or traditional quilting or both?

Favorite fabric designers or likes: Amy Butler,Tula pink kona solids etc.

Other crafts you enjoy?

Any food or scent allergies?

Other things your Swap partner should know about you:

We collect all year, tease a little on the list, report in monthly about how it’s going, etc. If we have a question, we send it to Susan and she finds out and sends back an answer.

Then, between Thanksgiving and Dec. 7, we mail our boxes. It’s fun to see them as people open them. We post pictures. Some people wait until Christmas Day and some of us rip right into them. Our chocolate is a memory by then. LOL

The only requirements we have are the 24 FQs in the requested categories, the hand made gift, and chocolate, unless otherwise requesting none. All of us toss in other fun things, like embroidery scissors or little tins or quilt items – nothing expensive.

Edi got these extras:

The original idea came from a quilter in a Phoenix, AZ, quilt store. Her guild had done it within the guild. Susan thought it would be a great substitute for Secret Sister programs and this was the 16th year some of us have done it. It was the first year for others. Susan usually invites a few people she knows, usually through blogging, to take the place of those who drop out and there are 12-15 people each year.

Great Week!

It’s been a fair to middlin’ week. My pain level has decreased for the most, provided I don’t try do something stupid. (Like thinking I can reach up in the cabinet get something. (Not good, not good at all lol) Aside from that, I’ve increased my exercise and traction time. So I’m gettin’ there:)

I belong to a group of ladies that do a Shoebox Swap once a year. We fill out a form to share our likes and dislikes, like two colors of fabric you like, a little of everything. At the end of the year you end up with 24 FQ’s of you
Partners favorite colors. Anyway, I got my Shoebox the other day and wow! So many goodies! 😁 I’m going to try and post some pic’s now, so keep your fingers crossed.

These are the goodies in my box! I left out the candle and something else. ( it’s getting late for me, so my brain has all ready begun to shut down. Lolol

Wow – What A Couple of months!!

Image

Do you ever have things all planned out to, but then you get in your own way? My friend Susan is one of those anazingpeople that sets daily goals, weekly goals and monthly goals. What a trooper, she usually manages to get the better part of them completed. Me? Well I won’t go there today, in fact I only go see the doctors etc. lately. Lol
Several weeks ago (about 3 months) I was pushed out of our bed by my Dachshund Taz😵 In the process of rolling out, I managed to hit the corner of the nightstand, then proceed to slam my side and then my chest on the hard edge of the nightstand. That kept me pretty much down for the next two days. Oh yes, on that third night I was reaching across the nightstand and as I reached a tad bit too far, I kept on rolling! I automatically had a death grip on the edge of the nightstand as I was going down. Even though it’s instinctive not to let go, hoping you’ll break the fall, the consequences were worse. I tore the muscles and ligaments in my shoulder down my arm, my back,as well as crunching up my neck and spine. Tada!!!😖 All in one swoop. Lol

That was the beginning of some of the worst pain I’ve ever had. lol I knew there was nothing they could do for the ribs, but after ten days and no relief in sight, hubby took me to the ER. Didn’t have to wait too long, but one minute felt like an hour. So getting on the gurney, off the wheel chair, then back in the wheel chair back on the gurney, then back to the wheel chair and again on the gurney again, my body felt like I’d just slid down a big hill with all sizes of rocks and boulders. My body was screaming in pain. Argh, so then the doc looks at the X-rays to say nothing was broken (I knew that much, lol), and I had a little tendinitis in my shoulder. Well yeah, I’ve had that for about 40 or more years! LolDon’t get me wrong, the doctor and staff were all sooo very nice, I was just in so much pain an army of cute babies could have come through the ER and I’d still have been grumpy.

So what happened after that? I was given Norco and one of my pills for nausea and sent home. Whooppie. I still couldn’t breathe right, every single move I made I yelled, it hurt so bad. I began to think I was going crazy, how is anyone expected to just “live” with that pain, I mean I know I’m not “The Rock”
( he is a cutie tho lol) but I have always had a pretty high tolerance for pain. Right then I was really doubting myself, when just getting out of bed caused mr to holler. Then the next week I saw my doctor, I got a couple of cortisone. Shots, set up with the physical therapist.

Now mind you, I wear braces, I have a Walker, then went to one with brakes, seat etc. I can’t use those with one arm. Sigh, even attempting it caused pain. Sooooo, I now have a wheel chair so I can get outside and truly know there’s a world out there.lol When I asked my PT how long it was going to take to get back on my feet, he just kind of turned his head sideways a bit, said you can’t move your head to the left at all, nor bend your head in any direction, and your neck and spinal column are scrunched together…….so it’s going to be a while. I really really love that about him, he tells it likes it is. No himhawing around, lots of support and always there.

So now that I’ve whined all night , the crackers and cheese were great thanks lol,I have to tell you I’m fighting this all the way. I do as many of the exercises I can tolerate a a day, trying to eat better (I’m a terrible eater)
And trying not to push myself too hard, that just sets me back a day or two when I do that.

I must be feeling better though because I pylled out some of my Fall and Halloween fabrics to play with. Lol

It’s Not Working

Hi there, I hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for another icky winter here in CA.  SC has certainly been hit hard, it’s just unreal! I cannot believe the devastation there. Prayers go out to all of them for all their losses and a steady recovery. We know it won’t be fast, but steady is good.

The following I copied off the internet so I wouldn’t get my info wrong. Sadly it’s accurate.

The fire burned 76,067 acres in Lake, Napa and Sonoma counties since it sparked on Sept. 12.
The blaze killed four people and injured four firefighters in Lake County, destroyed 1,958 structures, including 1,280 homes, 27 multi-family structures and 66 commercial properties, according to Cal Fire.
An estimated 3,000 people were left homeless.

That was just one of the three huge fires. The small town of Middleton was burned down! It was just horrible for all those that had to evacuate, not knowing what or if they would go back to. Overall I have no idea how many thousands of acres were burned this year, but I pray we get normal rain and not deluges, or then mudslides and flooding will take over.

i’ve been trying to get some blocks done, but so far I’ve only been able to cut out the pieces.  I had hopes I could cut one day and sew the next, but so far that’s not working. lol after bending my head cutting out the blocks it’s taken at least two days for my neck to stop hurting. Then after sewing one I’m back to the heat and ice on my neck. Lol  BUT I figure if I can do one and a half a week, then I can meet the quota I need.  It’s a pretty small quota. Lol  I see my Physical Therapist Fri and then I need to make an appointment to see the spine specialist.  So I’ll see where things go from there:)  Sure tired of this, but what can you do? (Patience is not one of my virtues. Lol)

This Isn’t Quilting

My fabric mess- ugh

well, I’ve tried for three days to get at least two cushions reupholstered but I’ve had the worst luck.  I injured my neck quite a few months ag when I fell backwards into the bathtub. I was out of the tub drying off and the next thing I knew I was I the tub sideways. Hit my neck and head, I think I injured my back too but haven’t had that checkey.d out.  It’s hurt since then, but gotten bad lately.  Anyway, back on the subject, I’ve been trying to get my brothers patio furniture done.  Since I hurt my neck, I can stay on the floor cutting ( that’s my cutting table lol. ) usually for an hour or two. This past week or two I haven’t been able to do it, no matterhowhard I try.  Here’s a couple of pic’s of the mess I have.

Just part of the cushions. Just part of the cushions.

Unbelievable. lol I am so grateful that God gave me my wonderful husband.  He’ll put up with this mess until it’s done.  Unfortunately for today it stays that way, I’ve got an ice pack and heating off and on, to ease the pain.  I promised Bert a Carrot Cake two days ago and one way or another I’m going to get it done.  OMG!  I got the recipe on Sally’s Baking Addiction  and it’s the best carrot cake we’ve ever had! ( I’m sorry that’s not a link to her blog, I still cannot remember how to do that. Even as easy as it is.)  I will post a picture of the cake when it’s done. We don’t put the almonds in it or around it, hubby doesn’t care for them so I use walnuts in place of almonds, crushed and  pineapple in place of apple sauce yum it’s so good.
